Frequently Asked Questions (f.a.q.)
Page sizes (including images and stylesheets) should be kept small
since large pages take longer to load and, on some networks, increase
data charges
Many mobile devices do not support embedded objects or scripts and
in many cases it is not possible for users to load plug-ins to add
support. Content must be designed with this in mind. Even where a
device does support scripting, do not use it unless there is no other
way of accomplishing your objectives. Scripting increases power
consumption and so decreases battery life.
Complex layouts, such as are suggested by nesting
tables, are hard to render and are rarely appropriate to the mobile
context.
Use of tables for layout purposes is considered to be
bad practice, particularly for mobile devices. Page layout is more
efficiently accomplished using CSS and the resulting layout is easier to
linearize and render in a narrow context. Use of tables for layout also
breaks the distinction between the structure being represented
separately to layout
Do not use frames as many mobile devices do not support
them and because they cause a number of usability problems
Page sizes (including images and stylesheets) should be
kept small since large pages take longer to load and, on some networks,
increase data charges
Do not try to open pop-up windows as many mobile devices
do not support them. Even where they are supported, changing the current
window without informing the user can cause confusion
Your page should be organised so that if necessary they
may be read without stylesheets
Tables should not be used unless they are known to be
supported by the client device
Downloading images can increase the time to load your
page considerably. Making your page readable without images allows your
users to browse your page in text only mode, which reduces download
times and cost. Where images are enabled textual descriptions can help
them assess the page's usefulness prior to the arrival of images
Pre-selected default input values should be provided for
input elements where possible as this will reduce the amount of input a
user must do on their mobile device.
Given the typical input limitations of a mobile device,
the interface must as far as possible minimize user input. Where
possible, use selection lists, radio buttons and other controls that do
not require typing
Do not use in-line markup such as e.g. <b>bold</b>
to vary the presentation of your page. Use of stylesheets helps with
consistency of style and centralising style helps to reduce page weight
A short descriptive page title should be used for easy
identification, but bear in mind that it may be truncated when displayed
on a mobile device. Many devices use the page title as a default label
for bookmarks, so your title should help identify your content.
Image maps should not be used unless the requesting
device is known to support them. Most mobile devices lack a pointing
device, and server-side image maps cannot be used on such devices
Unless you know that the device is capable of submitting
a form without a submit control button (e.g. through javascript) then
you should ensure each form in your page has a submit button. Otherwise
users may not be able to use your site correctly.
Using cache information can reduce the need to reload
resources such as images and stylesheets, thus reducing download times
and costs. Caching is particularly important for mobile devices due to
the high network latencis typically experienced on mobile networks.
You should not use markup to redirect pages, as this
incurs the cost of downloading and processing a page. Instead you should
configure the server to perform redirects using HTTP 3xx codes.
Note that redirects should be avoided at all costs since each one adds
both to the time and the cost of viewing the final page.
Avoiding pixel and absolute measures allows the browser to adapt
content to fit the display. An exception to rule is where an image has
been specifically sized for a particular display. In this case
references to the image in markup may specify the exact dimensions of
the image in pixels, in order to help the browser to flow the page and
avoid re-flowing it after the page has been retrieved. Devices may
realize the intentions of authors more accurately if margins, borders
and padding are specified in pixels.
Use percentage and relative measures such as em, ex, bolder,
larger and thick.
Image maps should not be used unless the requesting
device is known to support them. Most mobile devices lack a pointing
device, and server-side image maps cannot be used on such devices
It is good practice for all but the simplest documents
to indicate their structure through headings and sub-headings. Using
structural markup, rather than formatting effects, allows easier
adaptation of content where it needs to be divided into several pages,
as well as potentially facilitating access to the sections of the
document that a user is interested in. Where headings are used they
should be used in accordance with the specification, i.e. they should be
properly nested according to their level

No you do
not have to have a web site, all you need is a business with a physical
address. Though some of our service options may include a link to
a web site, most local search and Internet yellow page tools are
designed to draw clients from the Internet to your place of business.
Our service
options give equal benefit for those businesses with or without a web
site.
For businesses without a web site using a local draw
package is a good
beginning for marketing your business on the internet. Increasingly
people are using the internet as their main source for finding products
and services locally. Recent studies have shown that 70% of U.S.
households use the internet when making local buying decisions, and 65%
of purchases initiated on the Internet - are made off line in the
stores!
Local search
is the next step in Internet marketing. Search engines and other online
information providers are the primary tools for finding information and businesses
on the web. Local search is the use of this technology to find
information and businesses in a specific geographic area.
For example,
if you are looking for a pizzeria in Chicago, primary search engines
such as Yahoo! and Google will list results from their local search
databases ahead of those of their standard search results.
Local
search applications are becoming more powerful, and as they do, their
user base is growing. No longer are people pulling out the print Yellow
Pages, instead they are using their computers to find the products or
services they are interested in, that are close to them locally. In
addition, local search services are feeding data to mobile devices such
as smart phones and GPS systems, which in turn help people find local
business locations.
It is to
your businesses advantage to purchase individual listings for each of
your business locations.
Because
these listing are based on geography, each location requires "stand
alone" submissions and listings.
If your business has 5 or more locations please contact us for

Internet yellow page sites. The GOLD packages will greatly expand
your listings, including custom results pages, maps, expanded service

does not get listed, we will

The optimal
choice would be to have both the Gold Packages. The purpose of local draw
is to get your business listed correctly in all the important local
information sites. Local Draw decided to create the packages
so a business can choose a financial commitment that is comfortable for
them. The reasoning was that it is better to do something small in terms
of starting a Local Marketing Plan then to do nothing at all.
Think of the
BASIC package as a simple business listing. Both GOLD packages
offer significantly more exposure, and increased local search relevance
for the products or services you offer.
